Justin Bieber threatened to turn his Instagram account private after fans made a number of hateful comments on pictures he posted of himself with his new gal pal Sofia Richie. Bieber has shared several photos of himself with the 17-year-old daughter of Lionel Richie (see right) while the two have been in Japan, which resulted in remarks on Instagram “getting out of hand,” he said.
After some Beliebers commented that Richie should kill herself and that Bieber was their man and not hers, the singer wrote on Instagram, “I’m gonna make my Instagram private if you guys don’t stop the hate this is getting out of hand, if you guys are really fans you wouldn’t be so mean to people that I like.” A number of Bieber’s supporters, however, took it as a slap in the face, feeling he was choosing Richie over them. Others took offense to Bieber’s use of the word “fans” because they felt Beliebers are more than that. In fact, as a result, “#RIPBeliebers” began to trend on Twitter.
Among the comments made on Instagram in response to Bieber threatening to turn his account private were, “I’m not a damn FAN, Justin. I’m a BELIEBER,” and “I’m done with this s**t. Thanks, justin. Real fans wouldn’t be hurt. But real beliebers are crying.” One other person expressed, “This was not expected from you Justin. This post is making me sad. This just proves that you are choosing her over us beliebers.’
Another individual went off, “I never thought I would be ashamed to be a ‘belieber’ oh Im sorry i meant fan… What the actual f**k. We have been there for you when you threw eggs at your neighbors house, when you got f**king arrested, when you broke up with selena over and over, when your nudes got leaked MULTIPLE TIMES… EVEN WITH YOUR F**KING RACIST COMMENTS IN THAT VIDEO. And for you to discredit us and stick up for some girl who treats the people who never left you like complete trash… Its sad. And I am honestly ashamed in you and myself for believing in you.”
And while there were some supporters, for the most part they got drowned out in the comments section of Bieber’s Instagram by angered Beliebers. So far, Bieber has not turned his Instagram account private.
