“I Am Cait” has been canceled. Caitlyn Jenner confirmed the swirling cancelation rumors on Tuesday. She tweeted, “After 2 amazing seasons of @IAmCait, it’s time for the next adventure. Thank you E! & thank you to the best girlfriends I could ask for!”
The show was originally designed as a docu-series to chronicle Jenner’s transition and follow her with other transgender women as they discussed their lives and confronted issues facing their community. Among the topics Jenner tackled on the two-year series were gender reassignment surgery and whether or not to now date men. At times, Jenner’s politics and support for the Republican party led to her butting heads with her girlfriends.
But the women on “I Am Cait” were always united in the fight against discriminatory laws in different cities and states that barred transgender people from using the bathroom of the sex with which they now identify. In the final episode of the show, Jenner and her friends risked being arrested in Houston as they protested the city’s anti-LGBT ordinance.
Throughout the show’s run, Gossip Cop busted inaccurate stories about “I Am Cait.” Just a week and a half ago, we corrected a Life & Style story that falsely claimed Jenner was in a “feud” with her ex-wife Kris Jenner over “I Am Cait.” The tabloid alleged Jenner asked Kris to go to E! and threaten to pull “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” if “I Am Cait” wasn’t renewed, and then fought with her ex-wife when “Kris balked at the idea.” A rep for Jenner assured Gossip Cop that talk of a “feud” between Jenner and Kris was “false.”
Still, presumably because of low ratings, “I Am Cait” was canceled, yet Jenner was nonetheless appreciative of the “amazing” experience she had and opportunity given to her by E!. For its part, the cable network said in a statement, “We are incredibly proud of the two seasons of ‘I Am Cait,’ a groundbreaking docu-series that sparked an important and unprecedented global conversation about transgender people, their struggles and triumphs.” The statement added, “Caitlyn and E! have mutually decided not to move forward with another season at this time. She will always remain a part of the E! family, and we look forward to continue following her journey as she appears on ‘Keeping Up with the Kardashians.’”
