Charlie Puth seemingly mocked Justin Bieber on Tuesday by contradicting the fellow pop star’s tweet in which he offers advice about songwriting. In an apparent response to Bieber’s tip, Puth took an opposing view to writing music.

“If u write music take notes from the greatest writer to ever do it Jason Boyd aka Poo bear,” wrote Bieber in an Instagram post praising his friend and frequent collaborator. Shortly after, Puth tweeted, “if you write music…write from the heart. you don’t take notes, you hear them.” Although the singer doesn’t call out his peer by name, it appears fairly obvious he’s shooting down Bieber’s message, which seems intended more as a compliment to his friend than as a formal education in making music.

Puth and Bieber aren’t quite in an all-out feud, however, there has been some contention between the two singers in the past. As Gossip Cop reported, Puth yelled “F*ck you, Justin Bieber” during a Dallas concert in May, but later apologized on Twitter for his outburst and further praised Bieber in a series of tweets. Curiously, Puth later mysteriously deleted all of his apologetic and favorable remarks about Bieber.

The reason behind Puth’s apparent animosity towards Bieber isn’t entirely clear, but many believe it’s related to Puth’s friendship with Bieber’s ex-girlfriend, Selena Gomez, who collaborated with Puth’s on his song, “We Don’t Talk Anymore.” For his part, Bieber has yet to respond to Puth seemingly calling him out.
