Taylor Swift Feud With Kim Kardashian, Kanye West NOT “Publicity Stunt”

Taylor Swift’s feud with Kim Kardashian and Kanye West is NOT a “publicity stunt,” despite speculation. Gossip Cop can reveal what’s going on.

Fergie did an interview on Thursday with Australia’s “The Kyle And Jackie O Show” in which she was asked about pal Kardashian’s recent drama with Swift. The Black Eyed Peas frontwoman defended her friend, saying, “You’ve gotta respect her for sticking up for her husband.” But Fergie also went on to say, “Knowing them, it’s probably a big master plan. They’ll probably all come together at the MTV Awards or something.”

Now, on Friday, Us Weekly took those quotes and ran them with the headline, “Fergie Hints Taylor Swift, Kim Kardashian Feud Is a Publicity Stunt” (see screengrab below.) The accompanying story similarly stated, “Kim Kardashian’s pal Fergie suggested during an interview with Kyle and Jackie O that Kardashian’s feud with Taylor Swift is perhaps just one big ol’ publicity stunt.” But rather than fact-checking Fergie’s remarks, the tabloid simply chose to regurgitate them, regardless of their accuracy.

And while Fergie, of course, is entitled to have her own theories about what’s been going on, her “hint” and “suggestion” that this beef was a “master plan” by both parties is simply not true. Swift is most definitely not in cahoots with Kardashian and West right now, which should be obvious given that the situation has made each side look bad in different ways. What’s arguably worse, though, than Fergie’s baseless remarks is that Us Weekly, a supposed news outlet, should know better.

After all, the magazine’s cover story this week is all about the “war” between Kardashian and Swift (see below). The publication purported to have sources on the feud, so why would it now go with Fergie’s “publicity stunt” angle without expressing any doubt? That just suggests Us Weekly hasn’t known what it’s been talking about all this time. But Gossip Cop suspects the tabloid is really just trying to play both sides in an attempt to get both print and online attention. That’s a pretty sorry case of celebrity “journalism.”
