“Star Trek Beyond” Wins Box Office

Star Trek Beyond Box Office

(Paramount)

There’s a new intergalactic force ruling the box office. Star Trek Beyond will easily win its opening weekend.

A sequel to 2013’s Star Trek Into Darkness, the new film is expected to debut with about $56 million. While that’s less than its predecessor, it is still a decent total. And plans are already in the works for a fourth movie in the rebooted film franchise.

The Secret Life Of Pets is still drawing a large enough audience in its third weekend to take the number two position with $29 million. But there’s a tight race for third, fourth and fifth places. Animated sequel Ice Age: Collision Course, new horror film Lights Out, and the Ghostbusters reboot are all neck-and-neck right now with approximately $21 million each. It remains to be seen where each will ultimately fall on the list.

After that, it’s likely Finding Dory will finish in sixth with box office receipts of $6.9 million. The Legend Of Tarzan could nab the number seven spot if it brings in $6 million. Ticket sales of $5 million would put the Indian film Kabali in eighth for its first weekend. Probably rounding out the Top 10 are Mike And Dave Need Wedding Dates ($4.2 million) and The Infiltrator ($3.2 illion).

All figures are currently estimates. Gossip Cop will have updates.
