Rose McGowan is on the lookout for women writers.

Under her production banner Damage Inc. Productions, the actress is partnering with television festival SeriesFest on a script writing competition called "Featuring Women Initiative." The competition will search for new episodic content about, for, and featuring women, offering artists the opportunity to share series that create unique and powerful roles for women.

Scriptwriters can submit concepts for 30-minute or 60-minute dark comedy or dramatic series with each pilot script focusing on a female-centric episodic story. Submissions will be judged from a 3 to 15 page “Series Bible,” including log line, pilot summary, character breakdown, at least six future episode synopses and a 5 to 10 page writing sample. The winner(s) will receive a writing deal with Damage Inc. and the opportunity to work alongside McGowan to bring her show to life.

“Damage Inc. is looking for screenwriters who are interested in bringing substantial women to life via episodic storytelling,” said McGowan. “We are looking for any genre except slasher films or superhero series. They can be psychedelic, true to life, comedy, tragedy, etc., yet must be intelligent, smart, fierce and moving. Society is in dire need of voices that are not from within the Hollywood ecosystem. I know what’s available there, which is why I am looking for you and your writing talents. If you’d like to be part of changing the system, if you’d like to see yourself or a better version of yourself onscreen, please submit.”

“We are thrilled to partner with Rose McGowan and Damage Inc. on such an essential initiative to showcase female-driven stories, highlighting the incredible and often underrepresented talent working today,” said Randi Kleiner, CEO of SeriesFest. “Rose is a true visionary and we are excited by her passion to nurture, cultivate and champion original work from emerging writers.”

Submissions and entry fees are due by Oct. 1 with a late deadline of Oct. 15. They will then be reviewed by a panel of judges, and finalists will be notified by the week of Dec. 5. To be eligible for the contest, entrants must be aged 18 years or older. Limit one entry per person, and each entry must include only one script.
