Selena Gomez received a sweet birthday shout-out from Justin Bieber’s mom Pattie Mallette on Friday. As Gossip Cop noted earlier, July 22 is the singer’s 24th birthday.
On Friday afternoon, Mallette tweeted, “A birdie told me it was your birthday @selenagomez. Many tweets from the bird or may have been several birds maybe? #HappyBirthdaySelena.” She added in a second tweet, “I am blessed to know you @selenagomez & celebrate this precious day you were born! Don’t let them get to you. Keep UR peace & joy #LoveWins.”
That second message seemed to be a reference to the criticism Gomez faced earlier this week after defending best friend Taylor Swift on Twitter after Swift’s feud with Kim Kardashian and Kanye West erupted. Mallette’s tweets have received more than 9,000 retweets each so far, and another 11,000 “likes.” Gomez, however, has not responded to the birthday wishes, and actually hasn’t tweeted since the aforementioned social media dustup.
Mallette and Gomez have obviously known each other for a number of years now due to the star’s on-and-off relationship with Bieber. Last November, it was wrongly speculated that his kiss-off track “Love Yourself,” which contains the lyric “My mama don’t like you and she likes everyone,” was about Gomez. Clearly, Mallette likes her very much.
