USA Network's forthcoming comedy competition series First Impressions is taking shape.
Freddie Prinze Jr. has joined the Dana Carvey-produced unscripted show as host, the NBCUniversal-owned cable network announced Friday.
Picked up to series in November, First Impressions puts America's best amateur impressionists against each other in a weekly battle. Carvey will serve as the show's "expert-in-residence," mentoring the contestants and participating in game play. Viewers across the country will vote each week to help crown a winner.
In addition, comics Steve Carell, Jay Leno, Kevin Nealon, Yvette Nicole Brown, Tom Arnold, Jon Lovitz and Kate Flannery are all set for appearances as coaches on the half-hour project, which will debut Tuesday, May 10, at 10:30 p.m.
Carvey exec produces First Impressions with Jeff Gaspin, David Garfinkle and Jay Renfroe. Renegade 83 and Gaspin Media will produce.
“First Impressions gives up-and-coming impressionists a unique opportunity to share their skills with the master,” Prinze Jr. said in a statement. “I’ve always been a huge fan of Dana, and watching him in action, working with our talented competitors, is incredible."
In recent years, Prinze Jr. has lent his voice to several series, most notably Stars Wars Rebels as well as Robot Chicken. But this marks his first onscreen small-screen role since a 2014 guest arc on Bones. The actor, also known for roles in She's All That and I Know What You Did Last Summer, is repped by Gersh and Brillstein Entertainment.
