The new drama is OK on Thursday, but it doesn't pull TGIT numbers.

The Family might have a difficult time drawing a crowd to ABC's iffy 9 p.m. time slot this Sunday. A Thursday preview of the midseason drama, in Scandal's auspicious hour, generated pretty mediocre numbers.

The premiere averaged a 1.5 rating among adults 18-49 and 5.7 million viewers for ABC, well below the typical showing from Scandal by both measures. It was as good of a launch pad as any for a live draw, airing after a steady Grey's Anatomy — which ranked as the night's highest-rated broadcast series with a 2.2 rating in the key demo. How to Get Away With Murder was also steady, pulling a 1.4 with adults 18-49.

Fox won the night with two hours' worth of American Idol. It averaged a 1.9 rating among adults 18-49 and 8.7 million viewers. The show was off two-tenths of a point in the key demo, potentially thanks to the draw of Fox News' GOP debate.

Even though Thursday CBS anchor The Big Bang Theory was a repeat, Life in Pieces was the only series to see any dips. It averaged a 1.8 rating among adults 18-49 before steady outings of Mom, (1.7 adults), 2 Broke Girls (1.7 adults) and Elementary (1.1 adults).

Me, You and the Apocalypse (0.5 adults) and Shades of Blue (1.0 adults) were both steady on either side a Blacklist repeat. And, on the CW, Legends of Tomorrow held its 0.9 rating in the key demo, and The 100 pulled a 0.5 rating.
