Pop is booking a return trip to Schitt's Creek.
The scripted comedy starring Eugene Levy and Catherine O'Hara has been renewed for a third season, it was announced Thursday.
The season three pickup comes several weeks after Canadian broadcaster CBC renewed the series for a new season, expected to premiere over the border in early 2017. Season three will consist of 13 episodes.
The series stars Eugene Levy and Catherine O'Hara as the parents of a wealthy family that suddenly lose it all and are forced to live in a depressing town they once joked about called Schitt's Creek.
The half-hour comedy is co-created and written by Levy and his son, Daniel Levy. The younger Levy also stars in the series, along with Chris Elliott, Annie Murphy, Emily Hampshire and Jennifer Robertson. Commissioned by CBC, the series is produced by Not A Real Company Productions Inc. The Levys exec produce with Andrew Barnsley, Kevin White, Fred Levy and Bob Feigin. ITV Studios Global Entertainment handles international distribution.
“The audience and critical reception we have received for Schitt's Creek has been beyond expectations, and we are excited to reward our fans with 13 additional episodes in season three,” said Pop president Brad Schwartz said in a statement. “In the upcoming season two, the character and the comedy reaches for bold new heights, and we can’t wait to see where this extraordinary cast and award-worthy performances goes next.”
Schitt's Creek, the first scripted series on Pop following its transformation from its previous identity as TVGN, and before that, TV Guide Network.
The second season of Schitt's Creek premieres on Wednesday, March 16 at 8 p.m. on Pop.
