Gideon Raff is reuniting with Universal Cable Productions.
The Dig co-creator is set to adapt The New York Times best-seller The Increment, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
From author David Ignatius, The Increment centers on Harry Pappas, a CIA officer trying to identify the sender of an encrypted message coming from inside one of Iran's nuclear facilities, and Karim Molavi, an Iranian scientist driven to betray his country in order to protect it from itself.
The title refers to a U.K. black ops unit consisting of Arab, Pakistani and Iranian operatives. These agents can penetrate terror organizations and enemy states. A dangerous cat-and-mouse game unravels between the Revolutionary Guard and the Western agencies.
Raff is attached to write and direct the project, which is collaboration between UCP and Hypnotic. Raff, whose credits include Prisoners of War, the Israeli format on which Homeland is based; Tyrant and Dig. He is repped by WME. Hyponotic, whose partners include Dave Bartis, Doug Liman (Covert Affairs, The Bourne Identity) and Gene Klein, is repped by CAA, as is Ignatius.
"David Ignatius' novel is a gripping, edge-of-your seat tale of deceit and revenge with fascinating characters and intricate landscapes," UCP executive vp development Dawn Olmstead said in a statement. "We look forward to collaborating with Gideon Raff and Hypnotic as we bring this highly suspenseful thriller to life on the small screen."
UCP has increasingly looked to popular book titles for TV projects. The Magicians, which just earned a season-two renewal at Syfy, is based on Lev Grossman's novels. An adaptation of William Wright's The Von Bulow Affair begins production later this year.
