The Carlton Cuse and Ryan Condal drama will return for a 13-episode second season.
Colony is coming back for more.
USA Network has renewed the invasion drama for a second season, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The renewal comes just three episodes into the freshman series' run. The order for season two is for 13 episodes, up from the show's 10-episode first season.
From co-creators Carlton Cuse (Lost) and Ryan Condal (Hercules), the series stars Lost alum Josh Holloway and Walking Dead grad Sarah Wayne Callies as a husband and wife struggling to survive and bring liberty back to the people of Los Angeles following an occupation.
Cuse, Condal and Holloway exec produce the series with Juan Jose Campanella. Colony is a co-production between Legendary Television and Universal Cable Productions.
The series, which premiered early last month, has brought in steady ratings for the network. The first episode of Colony was also released two weeks on select digital platforms, similar to an approach USA used successfully last summer for the launch of buzzy freshman drama Mr. Robot.
“Carlton and Ryan have successfully delivered a story that tests the strengths and weaknesses of a society in duress, and the bonds of a family divided,” USA Network president Chris McCumber said. “Colony’s performance across all platforms has been impressive, and we can’t wait to see where the story takes us.”
Colony's renewal comes at an important time of change for the network, which began a massive creative overhaul last year. Gone are "blue sky" procedurals like Psych and White Collar, which have been replaced with edgier fare like hacker drama Mr. Robot, which recently won the Golden Globe and Critics Choice awards for best drama series. The network's next big swings are the cartel drama Queen of the South and Gale Ann Hurd's Falling Water.
In addition to Mr. Robot, Colony joins returning original series Suits, Royal Pains and Playing House.
For Cuse, Colony is one of several projects on the prolific producer's plate. He also exec produces Bates Motel on A+E and The Strain on FX.
