Was Carrie Bradshaw almost a brunette? According to Lisa Edelstein, yes!
The "Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce" star dropped a "Sex and the City" bombshell on Tuesday's Access Hollywood Live, confirming to Billy Bush and Kit Hoover that she almost played the beloved Big Apple heroine herself.
"It wasn't a rumor," the actress clarified. "That actually happened."
When asked directly if "SATC" mastermind Darren Star had approached her for the now-iconic role, Lisa revealed that the process had actually gotten much further than that.
"Oh, yes," she told Billy and Kit, explaining that her deal was all ready to go – except for one detail.
"I was either going to do it or not. It all depended on whether she said yes," Lisa continued, referring to eventual star Sarah Jessica Parker, who was mulling her own offer at the time.
"My contract was complete," Lisa added. "I was waiting."
While the 49-year-old went on to star in the hit medical drama "House" for seven seasons, in addition to appearances on other critical darlings like "The West Wing," she admitted that missing out on "SATC" kept her from enjoying the show as a viewer.
"Yeah, I didn't really watch it," Lisa said of the HBO comedy. "It was too painful."
However, she added, headlining the female-led "Girlfriends' Guide" – Bravo's first scripted series – has given her an opportunity to reflect on the experience with some perspective.
"I love the comparisons now," she smiled. "It's sort of a funny thing, that when life comes around that way."
