She'll play the small-town mayor in the comedy from Brian Gallivan and Sony Pictures TV.
Casey Wilson is heading back to ABC.
Days after booking a guest role on the network's Grey's Anatomy, the actress has signed on to topline comedy pilot Hail Mary, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The comedy centers on a young small-town mayor named Mary Wolf who has dysfunctional siblings, a dying father, disgruntled citizens, a nearly bankrupt town and the mafia breathing down her neck. Only a miracle can help her — so she fakes one. Based on the Austrian Broadcasting Corp. series Braunschlag, created by David Schalko.
Wilson will star as Mary, who is additionally described as less of a rule-follower and more of a rule breaker, she's got the charisma of a young Bill Clinton.
The casting reunites her with ABC and Hail Mary producers Sony Pictures Television after she spent three seasons starring on Happy Endings. The casting also reunites her with Hail Mary writer/exec producer Brian Gallivan, who wrote a few episodes of Happy Endings and had a guest role on Wilson's follow-up series, Marry Me.
Gallivan will pen the script and exec produce the single-camera comedy alongside Seth Gordon and Tariq Jalil. Gordon will direct the pilot.
Repped by UTA, Odenkirk Provissiero and Ziffren Brittenham, actress-producer Wilson also has an overall deal with ABC Studios with producing partner June Diane Raphael.
Wilson's casting comes as the Happy Endings stars continue to be in high demand this pilot season. Adam Pally booked the lead in Fox comedy pilot Making History; Eliza Coupe booked the female lead in Hulu's Seth Rogen comedy pilot Future Man, while Zachary Knighton will co-star in ABC family comedy pilot Pearl. Damon Wayans Jr. also has been fielding multiple offers this pilot season.
