'Sensory' is inspired by the life of neurologist Joel Salinas.
CBS is looking for another procedural inspired by a true story.
The network, home to Scorpion — based on the life of genius Walter O'Brien — has picked up Sensory, a medical drama inspired by the life of Dr. Joel Salinas.
The drama is described as a two-hander centered around a veteran neurologist and her protégé who has mirror-touch synesthesia, a neurological trait that causes him to experience other people's sensations. Inspired by the true story of neurologist Salinas.
The drama is written by David Zabel (ER, Betrayal), who exec produces alongside Scott Free Productions' Ridley Scott, David Zucker and Foundry Media's Roger Freet. The drama extends Zabel's relationship with Scott Free as he was behind the banner's PBS drama Mercy Street. The drama is a co-production between CBS Television Studios and Sony Pictures Television's TriStar Television.
Sensory marks the return of Scott Free to CBS Television Studios. The drama was one of three set up when the banner returned to the studio following the success of Numbers. It expands Scott Free's relationship with the network, where it has Robert and Michelle King's The Good Wife and BrainDead set up, with the latter due in the summer.
For TriStar, meanwhile, this is the second pilot pickup this season and joins ABC's Model Woman, which is a co-production with ABC Studios.
For CBS, meanwhile, Sensory becomes the network's eighth drama pilot this season and second medical entry joining Jason Katims' Silicon Valley-set Bunker Hill. The network so far has ordered 15 total pilots, off three from a year ago.
The picks come as CBS has found moderate success with freshman drama Code Black and as the network has put a high priority on having a successful medical drama on the air.
