He'll play Nancy's father.
CBS' Nancy Drew reimagining is beginning to take shape.
ER alum Anthony Edwards has become the first person cast in the network's contemporary take on the iconic detective, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The drama, based on the beloved book series, finds Nancy now in her 30s and serving as a detective for the NYPD where she investigates and solves crimes using her uncanny observational skills, all while navigating the complexities of life in a modern world.
Edwards will play Carson, Nancy's father, who graduated at the top of his class at Yale Law. The role marks his return to series television following ABC's short-lived drama Zero Hour in 2013. Since then, he's had guest gigs on HBO's Girls and CBS' Blue Bloods. Edwards is a Golden Globe winner for his role as Dr. Mark Greene in NBC's long-running medical drama ER. He was nominated for four Emmys for the part but won his first as part of 1998's HBO telepic Temple Grandin. He's repped by Gersh and Lovett Management.
Written and exec produced by husband and wife duo Joan Rater and Tony Phelan (Grey's Anatomy), Dan Jinks also exec produces the CBS Television Studios drama.
The role of Nancy has yet to be cast, though the character will be diverse, though CBS Entertainment president Glenn Geller told The Hollywood Reporter in January that it was unclear whether she will be African-American, Asian-American or Latino. The exec said the role would hinge on finding the right actress for the part. "[She will] not [be] Caucasian," he stressed. "I'd be open to any ethnicity."
