Bryan Fuller is about to explore a familiar frontier – "Star Trek."
The former "Hannibal" boss has been named co-creator and showrunnr of CBS' new "Star Trek" television series. He'll also serve as executive producer alongside Alex Kurtzman.
Bryan began his career as a writer for "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" and "Star Trek: Voyager."
"My very first experience of 'Star Trek' is my oldest brother turning off all the lights in the house and flying his model of a D7 Class Klingon Battle Cruiser through the darkened halls. Before seeing a frame of the television series, the 'Star Trek' universe lit my imagination on fire," Fuller, who has been named showrunner of the new series, said in a statement on Tuesday. "It is without exaggeration a dream come true to be crafting a brand-new iteration of 'Star Trek' with fellow franchise alum Alex Kurtzman and boldly going where no 'Star Trek' series has gone before."
The new "Star Trek" will air on CBS in early 2017.
Fuller has been busy since "Hannibal" wrapped its run on NBC. He's also currently bringing Neil Gaiman's "American Gods" to Starz.
