'2 Broke Girls' will take over the Thursday 9:30 p.m. slot starting Feb. 18.
CBS' Angel From Hell won't get its wings.
The network has pulled the freshman comedy starring Jane Lynch and Maggie Lawson, effectively canceling the comedy, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
2 Broke Girls will take over Angel From Hell's Thursday at 9:30 p.m. slot starting Feb. 18. This week, a repeat of The Big Bang Theory will air in the slot. It's unclear if any of the remaining Angel From Hell episodes will air — and if so, where or when.
Produced by CBS Television Studios, Angel From Hell opened Jan. 7 to a 1.6 rating among the advertiser-coveted adults 18-49 demographic and 8 million total viewers. It matched the recent performance of Warner Bros. Television-produced veteran 2 Broke Girls in the slot. Subsequent episodes have not done as well, with Angel's fifth broadcast on Feb. 4 pulling 6.3 million total viewers — its lowest haul to date. Factoring in delayed viewing, the series has been averaging a modest 20 percent uptick.
For CBS, the move to drop Angel comes as the network has had a solid freshman class. The net has handed out full-season pickups to each of its rookies — including comedy Life in Pieces. Of its seven new series, only Rush Hour and Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders have yet to air; dramas Code Black, Supergirl, Limitless and Life in Pieces all have secured additional episode orders.
It's also worth noting that Angel From Hell was one of only two single-camera comedies ordered at the network last season. This pilot season, new CBS president Glenn Geller has put a focus on multicamera fare. Of CBS' eight current comedy pilots, five are multicam, one is single-cam and two are hybrids.
