Actress Sophie Skelton will take on the major role when the Starz hit series returns for season two in the spring.
"Breewatch" is finally over, as Starz's Outlander has cast the major role of Brianna for season two.
The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Sophie Skelton has landed the important, spoiler-filled role of Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire's (Caitriona Balfe) adult daughter. Brianna is described in the books as a striking, redheaded woman, strong-minded and intelligent beyond her years with traits inherited from both her mother and father. Brianna has a distinctly scholastic mind-set and a healthy dose of Fraser stubbornness.
Skelton joins previously announced Richard Rankin who will join the cast in season two as Roger Wakefield. He is playing the adult version of Reverend Wakefield's son viewers met in season one, and has important connections to Brianna.
Season two of Outlander finds Claire and Jamie arriving in France, hell-bent on infiltrating the Jacobite rebellion led by Prince Charles Stuart, and stopping the disastrous battle of Culloden before it happens. With the help of his cousin Jared, a local wine merchant, Jamie and Claire are thrown into the lavish world of French society, where intrigue and parties are abundant, but political gain proves far less fruitful. Altering the course of history presents challenges that begin to weigh on the very fabric of their relationship. However, armed with the knowledge of what lies ahead, Claire and Jamie must race to prevent a doomed Highland uprising, and the extinction of Scottish life as they know it.
A trained singer and ballet dancer, Skelton performed in various stage productions, including Fiddler on the Roof, Les Mis and West Side Story. Her TV credits include Doctors, DCI Banks, Waterloo Road, Foyle's War and Casualty — Forsaking All Others. She will also appear in the upcoming TV show Ren and the feature films Another Mother's Son and Ladybird.
Outlander is adapted from Diana Gabaldon's international best-selling books and executive produced by Battlestar Galactica's Ronald D. Moore. Season two will premiere in April on Starz.
