Lea Michele is not engaged, despite an erroneous report. Gossip Cop can exclusively correct the tabloid that first published the claim. We’re told it’s all “false.”

According to OK!, Michele’s boyfriend Matthew Paetz “proposed over the holidays.” The tabloid then quotes an unnamed “insider” saying, Michele wasn’t shocked by Paetz’s proposal, but she “burst into tears.” What’s more, adds the magazine’s alleged “source,” Michele got the “blessing” from her late boyfriend Cory Monteith’s family to marry Paetz.

Interestingly, the magazine left out a few things, including all the facts. For instance, the outlet doesn’t mention why Michele and Paetz supposedly got engaged a month ago, and only now four weeks they’re reporting it, while other legitimate publications have not. Even more noteworthy is how the tabloid doesn’t mention any details about where or how Paetz proposed, or even what her engagement ring looks like. A skeptic might argue that it seems like OK! totally fabricated this story since it has nothing to back up its claims.

While it’s true that Michele and Paetz have been together for a little more than a year and a half and are happy together, there is no engagement news to reveal right now. Gossip Cop checked in with Michele’s rep, who exclusively tells us the “Glee” star is not engaged, and the tabloid’s report is entirely “false.”

Gossip Cop has actually tracked more than a half-decade of inaccurate reports about Michele by the tabloid. For instance, we busted the outlet when it wrongly claimed in 2011 that she was hooking up with Ashton Kutcher. Gossip Cop also debunked an inaccurate story in 2013 that said she was “wasting away” and only 98 pounds. And last year, we shot down a report that absurdly stated Michele and Ariana Grande were feuding on the set of “Scream Queens” when, in reality, production had not even started, and they had never even met. Much like those past tales, the current one about Michele and Paetz being engaged doesn’t ring true.
