Zayn Malik turns 23 on Wednesday, and to celebrate his birthday, Gossip Cop is looking back at five really wrong rumors about the former One Direction singer that we “blew out.”

In September 2015, Gossip Cop corrected a report from The Sun alleging that Malik was “moving on” from former fiancée Perrie Edwards with Zendaya. HollywoodLife jumped on the bogus story and ran it without any fact-checking, but Zendaya helped correct the report herself by tweeting that she has “literally NEVER met” Malik.

That same month, Gossip Cop exclusively busted a Daily Mail story suggesting that Malik was dating Gage Golightly. The singer posted a photo of himself with a blonde woman and the Daily Mail was one of several outlets to misidentify her as Golightly. But a rep for the actress told us that “the girl in the photo is not Gage.”

Gossip Cop also debunked a Twitter trend in July 2015 suggesting that Malik was returning to One Direction. The hashtag “#ZaynIsComingBackOnJuly26” became one of the top searches on Twitter for July 24, but a rep exclusively assured us that the claim was false. Indeed, July 26 came and went without Malik making the rumored in-concert return.

In April 2015, Perez Hilton published a completely inaccurate report that Malik would be presenting at the MTV Movie Awards. The questionable blogger claimed that a “source close to production” told him that Malik would be at the event, but a source close to the singer told Gossip Cop that Hilton’s information “isn’t true.” And, nope, he wasn’t there.

And finally, Gossip Cop exclusively busted a February 2015 HollywoodLife story that claimed Malik was embarking on a rap career. A member of One Direction’s camp told us that the rumor was not true. And while the British star is now working on a solo album, there’s been no indication that it will include rap.

Gossip Cop now wishes Malik a happy and rumor-free birthday!
