Z Living Signs Pact With 3 Ball Entertainment, Developing Weight-Loss Series From ‘Biggest Loser’ Alum

Health entertainment cable network Z Living is joining forces with 3 Ball Entertainment.

The channel has struck a development deal with the production company behind unscripted hits Bar Rescue and Extreme Weight Loss, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The pact, which puts three series into developments, is the first under new general manager Rafe Oller.

 “Z Living offers a remarkable opportunity to create various styles and genres of programming that impart valuable information in a way that also excites and inspires viewers," Oller said in a statement. "In health and wellness, and the entertainment space, 3 Ball is simply unparalleled; we’re delighted to work with them as we grow Z Living into an entertainment destination that reflects how ‘health’ permeates nearly every aspect of our lives.”

Added 3 Ball Entertainment CEO Todd A. Nelson: “3 Ball built its brand with projects that extoll the joys and optimism of positive transformation; we’re happy to be part of Z Living’s growth and trajectory in this rich and robust arena.”

The three series in development include:

The Big Fat Truth sees host JD Roth (The Biggest Loser, Extreme Weight Loss) helping groups of people change their lives and gain the reward of a healthier lifestyle. Whether it’s a church congregation, truckers at a truck stop, nurses at a hospital or cattle farmers on the ranch, each episode features Roth on location, posing challenges to groups of overweight participants, and providing them with the tools to accomplish their goals. Based on Roth’s upcoming book of the same name, he will executive produce with Nelson.

Finding Fido centers on canine expert, photographer and best-selling author Seth Casteel help an enthusiastic dog owner-to-be find their perfect companion. Whether it’s a sociable dog that can help owners overcome shyness, an active dog that encourages exercise, or even a dog that can help detect the onset of an owner’s epileptic seizure, Casteel matches each individual’s specialized needs and criteria to his or her new best friend. Nelson, Ross Weintraub and Brant Pinvidic and Z Living evp and head of programming Tim Krubsack will executive produce.

Homegrown Weddinglets design experts and event planners help budget-conscious couples create the wedding of their dreams right in their backyard. In addition to constructing a perfect wedding locale, experts will transform the home into an ideal environment for the family's fufutre. Nelson, Weintraub and Pinvidic will exec produce. 

The development pact follows the recent premieres of new unscripted series I Beat the Odds, Dueling Doctors and Cook Your Ass Off hosted by Top Chef's Richard Blais. Z Living, which centers on focused on fitness, healthy cooking, wellness, lifestyle and travel, rebranded from Veria Living in October 2014. Other original series include The Lisa Oz Show; Good Food America; Fit, Famous & Fabulous, hosted by actress, model and fitness expert Adrienne Janic; comedian David Price's Health Soup and Fed Up!, hosted by Top Chef alum Andrea Beaman.
