Vikings is coming back in a big way.
History has ordered an additional four episodes of the period drama, the A+E-owned cable channel announced Thursday.
The order brings Vikings' fourth season episode count to 20. Subsequently, History will split the upcoming fourth season into two runs of ten episodes each. The first ten episodes of the season will kick on Thursday, Feb. 18 at 10 p.m. with the other ten episodes set to air sometime later this year.
The upcoming new season will welcome Peter Franzen (The Gunman) as King Harold Finehair, who aims to be King of Norway and serve as a potential threat to Ragnar; Jasper Paakkonen (Jet Trash) as Halfdan The Black, King Harold’s violent younger brother; and Dianne Doan (“Descendants”) as Yidu, a woman who intrigues Ragnar.
Vikings has been a solid ratings performer for the network. It was renewed for a fourth season in March. The series hails from World 2000 and Take 5 Productions, with MGM Television attached as a worldwide distributor.
