Excluding Donald Trump's visit, 'SNL' posts its best numbers in nearly two years.
Again airing on a Saturday, with a comparatively modest number of candidates, the latest Democratic Party debate brought in 6.0 rating among households to ABC.
That's in line with the most recent face-off between Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders and Martin O'Malley. Their November meeting on CBS brought in a 6.1 rating with households that ultimately translated to 8.5 million viewers. Those numbers are still dwarfed by the much more contested GOP showdowns. The latest, airing Dec. 15 on CNN, brought in an average 18 million viewers.
The next Democratic debate won't likely perk up for NBC News. The fourth meeting of the presidential hopefuls will again air on a Saturday.
Saturday was good news for Saturday Night Live. The annual holiday episode, hosted by alums Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, gave the show its best ratings (excluding the recent Donald Trump visit) in nearly two years. The show nabbed a 5.1 rating among households and 2.6 rating among adults 18-49 (in the 25 markets with local people meters).
In the key demo, that's a 30 percent ratings boost compared to the season average.
