Executive producer Ali Adler answers one of the biggest questions fans have been asking since the pilot premiered.

Hank Henshaw's (David Harewood) secret was finally revealed last week on Supergirl, but there's an even bigger mystery surrounding the CBS superhero drama: how can Kara (Melissa Benoist) afford her huge apartment?

While Kara spends a lot of her time flying around National City as Supergirl, her off-time is spent working as Cat Grant's (Calista Flockhart) assistant at CatCo Media. An assistant's salary isn't much, and yet Kara's loft is expansive, modern, has floor-to-ceiling windows, exposed brick, her own laundry room, multiple chandeliers... suffice to say, it's no ordinary studio apartment. And since being a superhero doesn't put any extra money in the bank, how can Kara pay for her luxury place?

Executive producer Ali Adler knows that Kara's apartment doesn't exactly fit in with her assistant's salary.

"This [set] is based on an apartment that we really shot at down by L.A. Live," Adler tells THR. "It's the exact footprint of the other one except that we added a bathroom because even Kryptonians, I think, go to the bathroom. But it's very big. So we wonder, as Cat Grant's employee, how she's able to afford, I don't know, 1,700 square feet?"

Adler reveals that she came up with a backstory to explain exactly that.

"In my mind, Mrs. Needleberg, who lives next door, is older and she got the apartment in the building a lot time ago," Adler says. "She gives Kara a break in the rent in return for being her super. But also, Kara doesn't need to be worried about the area she lives in. If she's looking over her shoulder for the guy following her, it doesn't really matter."

Is that a satisfying enough answer to one of the show's biggest mysteries? Let us know in the comments section.

Supergirl airs Mondays at 8 p.m. on CBS.
