Scott Weiland’s death was caused by an overdose on cocaine, alcohol and ecstasy, which ultimately led to a heart attack, the Hennepin County Medical Examiner announced on Friday. As Gossip Cop reported, the former Stone Temple Pilots rocker was found dead on his tour bus in Bloomington, Minnesota earlier this month. Police dispatchers received a 911 call saying Weiland appeared to be in cardiac arrest, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities later discovered cocaine in Weiland’s tour bus bedroom, along with sleeping pills, Viagra, and various medications to treat anxiety and bipolar disorder. Not all of the drugs, however, contributed to Weiland’s death. Toxicology reports show that it was a fatal mix of cocaine, booze and MDA, an alternative form of ecstasy, that ultimately led to the rocker suffering a heart attack. Other factors included Weiland having a pre-existing heart disease, in addition to asthma, afflictions that most likely stemmed from substance abuse.
As Gossip Cop has noted, Weiland struggled with addiction for most of his career and had several stints in rehab. He was also arrested multiple times over the years for drug and alcohol-related offenses. Weiland, who was 48-years-old when he died, is survived by his third wife, Jamie Wachtel, and two teenage children he had from a previous marriage.
