Meek Mill was found in violation of his probation on Thursday by a Philadelphia judge, stemming from a trip he took to Los Angeles last month to attend the American Music Awards. The judge will sentence Mill next week.

The rapper’s probation stems from a 2009 weapons and drug conviction. One of the conditions of Mill’s probation is that he’s required to obtain a travel voucher from the court before leaving Philadelphia. Mill did not acquire the correct legal documents before going to the AMAs, which he attended to support girlfriend Nicki Minaj.

During his testimony before being found in violation, a tearful Mill talked about the difficulties not being able to travel out of state when he wanted, especially to see his mother in New Jersey. He also expressed that he knows the gravity of the situation, noting his “whole life is on the line” when he contacts probation.

Mill also took the opportunity to say he was sorry for referring to the D.A. as a “Bitch” in the song “The Ride.” “I’m not a gangsta. I’m not a criminal,” he told the judge between sobs, before adding he’s now found focus, thanks to his relationship with Nicki Minaj, and that he’s “trying to do better.

Last week before going to court, Mill addressed his legal troubles with an Instagram message. “I’m actually fighting for my life and freedom,” the rapper wrote. “Something I’ve been going thru from a case I caught at 19 years old and been on probation since.”

This isn’t the first time the rapper has violated the terms of his probation. Mill spent five months in prison last year for failing to get permission before booking out-of-town concerts, in addition to posting defamatory comments about his probation officer on Twitter.
