Independence Day: Resurgence released its first trailer on Sunday, and the world is once again under attack. Jeff Goldblum, who leads the fight 20 years later against the returning aliens, notes the extraterrestrial assault is “definitely bigger than the last one.” Watch the first trailer below.
Goldblum says that despite his two decades of using the aliens’ “technology to strengthen our planet… it won’t be enough.” He’s joined in the Independence Day sequel by several original cast members, including Bill Pullman as President Whitmore, as well as some newcomers, including Liam Hemsworth and Maika Monroe.
As squadrons of aliens fly above the Earth and in battle with even more advanced weaponry and fighting machines, we hear President Whitman say, “Today, you will once again be fighting for our freedom, not from tyranny, oppression or persecution, but from annihilation.” He adds, “And should we win, the Fourth of July will no longer be known as an American holiday, but as the day when the world declared in one voice, ‘We will not go quietly into the night. We will not vanish without a fight. We’re going to live on. We’re goin to survive.’ Today, we celebrate our Independenced Day!”
The special effects are far more intense than those in the original film, and it seems, despite the absence of Will Smith, the movie overall does not disappoint. Watch the first trailer for Independence Day: Resurgence, and tell Gossip Cop what you think.
