Donald Trump defended Steve Harvey on Monday’s “Today,” just hours after the wrong Miss Universe winner was crowned. Watch below.

As Gossip Cop reported, Harvey initially announced Miss Colombia as the winner of the pageant, before admitting he made a mistake and that Miss Philippines had actually won. The first-time Miss Universe host was ripped on social media afterward, though he issued multiple apologies. Many were actually curious for Trump’s reaction, as this marked the first ceremony since he sold his controlling interest in the pageant in the wake of NBC dropping the event earlier this year.

Speaking via phone on the “Today” show, Trump said, “Steve Harvey is a great guy. I like the way he got out and did it. It simply was a terrible error, terrible for the young woman from Colombia. But, you know, things happen. It’s live television.”

Asked for how he would have handled the situation, the presidential candidate offered, “I think I’d make them a co-winner. It would be very cool. Make them a co-winner, because what happened to the girl from Colombia is devastating, to give it to her and then take it away.”

In fact, Trump believes there still could be another ceremony in which Miss Colombia is formally named as the co-winner. “I think something like that could work, maybe,” he said. Check out the video below, and tell us what you think.
