“Saturday Night Live” opened simply with a tribute to those killed and injured in the Paris attacks. Cecily Strong came out and said in both English and French that our thoughts and prayers go our to the people of France. Watch the video below.
As Gossip Cop reported, the attacks on Paris on Friday night killed at least 129 and left more than 350 people injured, with many of them still in critical condition. One American, a 23-year-old California State University student named Nohemi Gonzalez, who was studying abroad, is among the dead.
The Paris attacks took place in several locations. At the Bataclan theater, 89 people were killed by terrorists who shot innocent audience members at an Eagles of Death Metal concert, as well as detonated suicide belts. Other locations where ISIS terrorists attacked included restaurants and the Stade de France, where the French and German soccer teams were competing when explosions went off outside the stadium.
Since the barbaric attacks, the world has come together to support the people of France and all those mourning loved ones. A number of musical acts, including the Foo Fighters, Coldplay, and U2, have since cancelled performances and numerous celebrities have tweeted prayers and their profound sympathies for those affected by the violence in Paris.
Not long after the 9/11 attacks in New York in 2001, “Saturday Night Live” similarly had a non-comedy open with then-Mayor Rudy Giuliani, along with members of the New York Fire Department, and a performance by Paul Simon.
