The Fox drama tops the demo for the night, but ABC's country kudos emerges as broadcast's most-watched.

Wednesday wasn't an outright win for Fox, with ABC's airing of the CMA Awards stretching over three hours of primetime, but Empire still emerged as the night's highest-rated series.

With a steady 4.6 rating among adults 18-49, the drama had a handsome margin of victory over ABC's music-fest — which averaged a 3.8 rating in the key demo, off more than 15 percent from last year. The race for most-watched went to ABC, which saw the CMAs average 14.4 million to Empire's 11.6 million viewers.

All of the eyeballs fixed to the CMAs didn't do much to dampen the rest of the broadcast lineup, though all the Wednesday series faced the World Series this time last week.

CBS saw steady episodes of Survivor (2.0 adults) and Code Black (1.2 adults) on either side of Criminal Minds (1.4 adults),though that series was off two-tenths of a point from the previous outing.

The Mysteries of Laura (1.2 adults) was up, by two-tenths of a point, on NBC before steady episodes of Law & Order: SVU (1.5 adults) and Chicago PD (1.4 adults).

Fox's Rosewood was even with its pre-World Series showing of a 1.5 rating in the key demo — and, on the CW, Arrow (1.0 adults) held steady as Supernatural (0.6 adults) dropped two-tenths of a point.
