Rob Lowe is getting slammed for his tweets on the Paris attacks, which criticized France and the country’s president.

As Gossip Cop reported, Paris was rocked by shootings and explosions on Friday that left more than 100 people dead. While there is still a lot of unanswered questions, the attacks are believed to be related to terrorism. The evolving situation led Francois Hollande to declare a state of emergency and restrict access into the country.

Initially Lowe seemed to be one of the many celebrities using social media to send prayers to all those affected by the tragic events. “Vive La France! #Paris,” he tweeted, as Gossip Cop reported earlier. The star, however, then sent two more tweets politicizing the situation.

“Oh, NOW France closes its borders. #Hollande,” wrote Lowe. He went on, “This is either the worst translation of an important speech ever, or one of the worst ever given. #Hollande.” Less than two hours later, he was back to discussing Hollywood matters, tweeting, “Wait, ‘The Martian’ filmmakers want to win a Golden Globe so badly, they’re entering it as a COMEDY?!! #gross #RidleyScottIsAlwaysFunny.”

It wasn’t the change of subject that angered people, but Lowe’s decision to get political in the immediate aftermath of the tragedy, when more than 100 people were still begin held hostage. One Twitter user responded, “Show some respect @RobLowe, people died, tonite! #ShameOnYou.” Another simply said, “Way too soon.”

Someone else advised, “Hey, Rob Lowe…this isn’t a case of bad publicity being better than no publicity….get smart.” But “The Grindr” star also had some applauding his messages. “Bravo Rob. Don’t listen to these fools who want America overrun. Most normal folks agree with your tweet,” wrote one fan.

Another replied, “Love it!!! 100% correct!! Don’t listen to these idiotic Libs on here man….the logic of your tweet is waaaaay over their heads.” Tell us what YOU think in the comments below.

UPDATE: Lowe has since tweeted, “Lived in France, and spend a ton of time there. Been in that stadium. This is all so devastatingly sad for a place I love. #FrenchPrayers.”
