NBC topper Bob Greenblatt announced the news during a press junket in Chicago on Monday.
NBC continued handing out early renewals late Monday, picking up Dick Wolf procedurals Chicago Fire and Chicago PD for the 2016-17 season.
Chicago Fire will return for its fifth season, while spinoff Chicago PD will begin its fourth season.
The news comes as little surprise as both series, produced in house by Universal Television, have been sturdy performers for the increasingly drama-focused network. Produced by Dick Wolf, the Chicago franchise is set to welcome a third series when spinoff Chicago Med debuts this month.

The early renewal comes hours after NBC handed out a second season pickup for freshman drama Blindspot, from Greg Berlanti, Martin Gero and Warner Bros. Television. The Chicago additions join summer drama Aquarius and comedy The Carmichael Show has having been renewed for next season.
Meanwhile, NBC has yet to determine the future of Wolf-produced Law & Order: SVU as well as spinoff Chicago Med. For his part, Wolf also has unscripted series Law & Order: You the Jury set at NBC — though it's unclear if that show will premiere this season or next. Wolf has also been rumored to be working on a limited series revival of the original Law & Order franchise.
