Matthew McConaughey did NOT exact revenge on a movie director who supposedly refused to cast him in a role, despite a ridiculous tabloid report. Gossip Cop can exclusively correct this story. We’re told it “never happened.”
According to the National Enquirer, an unidentified film director denied McConaughey an acting job prior to him becoming a major star. A so-called “source” tells the tabloid, “About 20 years ago, before Matthew was a hot Oscar winner, this director coldly refused him a role he desperately wanted.” The magazine’s seemingly fake “insider” adds in very unnatural language, “Yet that very same director called recently to beg, beg, beg Mr. A-Lister to star in his next flick.”
The tabloid’s convoluted tale goes on to claim that McConaughey pretended to be interested in working with the unnamed filmmaker, and even told him to fly cross-country for a meeting at his home in Georgia. The magazine’s phony “insider” is quoted as saying that after the director took the long flight, “[He] drove hours to the star’s Airstream trailer,” and after finally arriving at McConaughey’s home, the actor supposedly “walked him back to his car and crushed him with just one terse word, ‘No!'”
The Enquirer does not mention when this allegedly occurred and, more significantly, who this supposed director might be. And that’s because this never took place. Of course, one doesn’t get to the level of success that McConaughey has achieved without having a thick skin and being able to handle rejection. Additionally, one doesn’t get very far in show business if they’re the type to hold a 20-year grudge and plot revenge on their peers.
Even putting aside logic or the fact that the Enquirer has nothing to backup its claim, Gossip Cop still investigated this preposterous account. A source close to McConaughey exclusively assures Gossip Cop the tabloid’s entire saga simply “never happened.”
