Fox is looking for another horror show.
The network, home to horror comedy anthology Scream Queens, is adapting Bob Cramner's book The Demon of Brownsville Road as a potential drama series.
The network has handed out a script commitment to Haunted, with The Devil Inside co-screenwriter/director William Brent Bell set to write and helm the serialized drama.
Haunted, loosely based on Cramner's book, is described as a chilling horror series about a military agent who is partnered with her ex-boyfriend, now a rogue demonologist, to help a family overcome a deadly demonic infestation of their home. The season-long case investigates the true story of one the most haunted houses in America. The believer vs. nonbeliever duo, by solving the mystery of the present, will solve the mystery of their damaged past. At its core the series will explore the age-old question, "Is evil real?"
The drama is produced by 20th Century Fox Television, with Chris Morgan (The Fast & the Furious franchise, Fox's Gang Related) set to exec produce alongside Ainsley Davies. Lisa Arianna is on board to produce.
Haunted reunites Fox with Morgan, who signed a pod deal with 20th TV in 2013 that resulted in one-season drama Gang Related. The film and TV producer is also readying a contemporary take on The A-Team with the studio, though a network is not yet attached.
Bell, meanwhile, co-wrote and directed feature The Devil Inside as well as supernatural thriller The Boy, which is due in 2016. His TV credits include USA Network development project Posthuman.
Haunted arrives as horror fare — specifically demonic possession — has been in increasingly high demand on broadcast and cable. The CW has found continued success with veteran Supernatural; A&E has former Walking Dead showrunner Glen Mazzara's The Omen follow-up Damien due next year; Cinemax has Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman's similarly themed comic adaptation Outcast ready for 2016; and ABC Family has Shadowhunters (based on The Mortal Instruments series) in the works.
