It's been 12 years since audiences fell in love with Disney-Pixar's "Finding Nemo" and now it's time to dive back into the water with the sequel.
The first trailer for the 2016 sequel, "Finding Dory," debuted on Tuesday.
Back in August at the D23 Expo, the stars and filmmakers spoke about the new aquatic adventure, which takes place six months after the events of "Nemo."
"I'm so excited and I'm so proud of this film," Ellen, who plays the very forgetful fish, told the crowd.
After "Nemo" ended, filmmaker Andrew Stanton said he was left with an important question about the fate of Dory.
"I wanted to know that if this charming, forgetful fish ever got lost again, that she would be OK, that she would find her way home," the filmmaker said at the time. "And at the end of 'Finding Nemo,' I wasn't confident about that. So that's when I knew I had another story."
Adding, "The heart of 'Finding Dory' is the very title, taking our shortcomings and seeing how they define us as individuals."
The animated film also stars the voice talents of Hayden Rolence (Nemo) and Albert Brooks (Marlin) and newcomers Ed O'Neill (Hank, an Octopus with only seven tentacles), Ty Burrell (Bailey, a beluga whale, who thinks he has an injured head), Diane Keaton (Jenny, Dory's mother), Eugene Levy (Charlie, Dory's father) and Kaitlin Olson (Destiny, Dory's sister).
"Finding Dory" opens on June 17, 2016.
