Elizabeth Banks opened her “SNL” monologue by talking about how this past year she made her directorial debut with Pitch Perfect 2, and with that she took over directing her monologue from the director of “SNL.” Watch the video below.
Banks first told the director to pull the camera back, then she changed out of her dress and directed the different cameras to take shots of her from different angles, as she performed a musical number of “What A Feeling” from Flashdance. There were also a number of absurd special effect that she asked for while directing the monologue.
This is the very first time Banks has hosted “Saturday Night Live” and it comes just days before the November 20 release of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 2. Banks now joins other Hunger Games stars who have hosted “SNL,” including Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Woody Harrelson. Each of her co-stars, in varying ways, mocked the film franchise when they hosted the sketch comedy show.
It’s been a big year for Banks, who not only made her directing debut with Pitch Perfect 2, but also starred in 2015 in Magic Mike XXL and the Netflix series Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp.
