The 'Master of None' creator and star commended, "Stephen is the first late-night host from South Carolina — and the bajillionth white guy."
Aziz Ansari has no problem candidly discussing television's diversity problem, as demonstrated during Tuesday's episode of The Late Show.
"Stephen is the first late-night host from South Carolina — and the bajillionth white guy," said the Master of None creator and star of Colbert, who then asked if having Ansari on the show counts as providing diverse TV programming.
"Yeah, it's really diverse right now. It's 50 percent diverse!" he laughed. "This is like an all-time high for CBS!"
After Colbert gave the camera look and shook Ansari's hand, he said, "Hey, I'm doing my part. I do what I can."
And when Colbert wrongly noted the title of Ansari's book Modern Romance, the comedian told him that someone will now be fired backstage for the error on the host's information card.
"God, I hope it's a white guy," said Colbert. "Chances are."
