One Direction canceled their scheduled concert in Belfast on Tuesday shortly before the band was set to perform. This marks the first time the British group has abandoned a show at the last minute.

The scrapping of the “On The Road Again” show was truly unexpected. One Direction’s official Twitter account had tweeted just a couple of hours before the scheduled concert, “Belfast! Are you ready?” Additionally, fans were unaware of the cancellation until they arrived at the SSE Arena, were they were informed the show was not going to happen.

A rep for One Direction tells Gossip Cop in a statement: “Unfortunately One Direction have had to cancel tonight’s concert in Belfast. Liam [Payne] has been taken suddenly ill, and the concert will sadly not be taking place.” The spokesman added, “Fans have been asked to hold on to their tickets and there will be a further statement tomorrow. The band apologize to their fans and wish Liam well as soon as possible.”

Liam Payne has not commented on social media about his illness nor have his bandmates Harry Styles, Niall Horan, and Niall Horan.

Following the last-minute announcement, “#GetWellSoonLiam” began trending on Twitter. Some fans of the band spread a rumor that Payne had broken some bones, but Gossip Cop is told that is not true. We will update as soon as more information emerges.
