Adam Levine revealed that Maroon 5 are not in talks to play the halftime show at the 2016 Super Bowl, despite recent speculation. The singer told Howard Stern on his Tuesday radio show, “I don’t know where that [rumor] came from.” Listen below!
Actually, Gossip Cop knows where it came from. It was E! that wrongly reported Maroon 5 were “in talks” with the NFL.
During Levine’s interview, Stern brought up the recent claim that Maroon 5 are in negotiations to perform at Super Bowl 50, but the singer denied it. “I like the fact that we can talk about it, because I think the band would be thrilled to do it,” he said. “As far as where the rumors came from, that had nothing to do with any real conversation.”
Levine, however, did go on to admit, “I know that we’re probably on a shortlist,” but clarified, “We’ve been on a short list for a couple of years.” Levine added that he and the rest of Maroon 5 “very actively want to play the Super Bowl.”
Stern then questioned if CBS, the network airing the 2016 Super Bowl, would be hesitant to hire Levine because he’s on the hit NBC show “The Voice.” The singer answered, “I have no idea. I don’t know what the motivation behind those decisions are other than they probably want to get the best person for the job.”
