Teddy Roosevelt is headed back to the small screen.

The former president, who played a large role in PBS's acclaimed 2014 Ken Burns documentary The Roosevelts, is the subject of a new limited series in development at Showtime, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The project, which hails from Electus and Authentic, is in the early stages of development. David McKenna (American History X) is writing the script. Ben Silverman and Sean Cannino from Electus will produce with Jon Rubinstein and Jason Egenberg from Authentic.

The project marks a rare move into limited series for the pay cable network, which has largely focused on longer-running original series as well as documentaries. The project brings Silverman back in the Showtime fold. The former NBC entertainment co-chairman was an exec producer on Showtime's period drama The Tudors. This is the latest script sale for Electus, which produces The CW's Jane the Virgin and is behind Amazon's Casanova, which is nearing a series order.

Tom Berenger previously played Roosevelt in a 1997 TNT movie. Most recently, the late Robin Williams portrayed the beloved former president in the Night at the Museum film franchise.
