'Front Man' centers on a 30-year-old wedding singer.
The creator of Suburgatory is prepping her TV return.
Fox has handed out a hefty pilot-production commitment to Emily Kapnek comedy Front Man, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The single-camera comedy revolves around Paul, an overindulged only child born to two doting helicopter parents. As he approaches 30, Paul is forced to acknowledge that his dream of becoming a famous singer-songwriter isn't happening. Wrenched from the comfort of his family home, Paul must now learn to stand on his own. He takes the gig of front man for a local wedding band and learns more than wedding reception staples in the process.
Kapnek will pen the script and executive produce the comedy via her Warner Bros. Television-based banner Piece of Pie Productions. Elizabeth Banks and Max Handelman are also set to exec produce via their studio-based Brownstone Productions shingle. Should the comedy move to a formal pilot order, Banks would direct (pending availability). Renate Radford, senior vp television for Brownstone, is also on board to exec produce.
For Kapnek, Front Man marks her follow-up to ABC's Selfie, which was canceled last season after only a handful of episodes but finished its run on Hulu. She is
For Brownstone, meanwhile, Front Man continues its push into small-screen fare following HBO's Billie Jean King biopic, in which Banks stars opposite Paul Giamatti. The company's first digital series, Resident Advisors, premiered on Hulu.
Kapnek is repped by UTA and Jamie Mandelbaum. Banks (Pitch Perfect) is with UTA, Untitled and Ziffren Brittenham.
