Sam Smith has now confirmed he is singing the theme song for the next James Bond movie, Spectre, one day after dropping a major hint. The track will be called “Writing’s On The Wall.” Check out the video below!
As Gossip Cop reported, the “Stay With Me” singer posted a photo on Monday of a ring with an octopus insignia that very much matched the one used in the upcoming Bond film. With no caption for the snapshot, speculation ran rampant that Smith was giving a major clue about his involvement with the movie. On Tuesday, he spilled the beans during an appearance on the “Today” show.
“It’s been a dream of mine for a long, long time,” said Smith, admitting it feels weird to even say aloud that he’s working on the project. “I just wanted to write a love song, something classic and timeless.”
Smith has the honor of being the first British male artist to handle Bond theme song duties since 1965. He also has big shoes to fill since the last theme, Adele’s “Skyfall,” won her both an Oscar and Golden Globe. The crooner revealed the cover art (see above) on Instagram, writing, “This is one of the highlights of my career.”
“Writing’s On The Wall” is currently available for pre-order, with the song slated to be released on November 6, the same day Spectre hits theaters. Watch Smith talking about the project below, and tell us what you think!
