One Direction performed its last U.S. concert on Saturday night in Massachusetts, and thanked fans for supporting the North American leg of the “On The Road Again.” As Gossip Cop reported, it’s going to be a long time before One Direction plays again in the U.S. since the band announced it would be taking a hiatus after releasing and promoting its fifth album.
Shortly after performing at Gillette Stadium, Harry Styles tweeted, “Thank you Boston. That was the perfect way to wrap up the U.S. Tour. Thank you to everyone who works to make the shows happen.” He followed that up with a second message on Twitter that read, “Thanks for spending some time with us. It’s been an amazing tour, can’t thank you enough. Thanks for having us. All the love.”
Liam Payne also said goodbye to the United States. Along with a video of him lip-synching Chicago’s “If You Leave Me Now,” Payne wrote on Instagram, “Sad sad sad see you soon America and Canada too you will both be missed a lot thank you for years of amazing crowds and celebrations.” His words about thanks for “years of amazing crowds,” however, are being construed by some fans to mean that One Direction’s hiatus will actually turn into a permanent split.
Louis Tomlinson has not commented on the end of the U.S. leg of the tour nor has Niall Horan, who celebrated his 22nd birthday on stage when his bandmates and the crowd sang “Happy Birthday” to him (video below).
One Direction will end its “On The Road Again” tour in England on October 31.
