Jessica Simpson's marriage to Nick Lachey may have cost more than just a broken heart.
The fashion mogul joked in an interview with CNBC's "Closing Bell" on Thursday that her four-year union with the 98 Degrees singer was one of her most significant financial blunders.
"The biggest money mistakes? I don't know," Jessica told host Kelly Evans.

"For some reason I thought of my first marriage!" the songstress laughed.
Kelly assured Jessica that she's not alone. Many others, she said, have similar economic woes in their pasts too.

"That's actually a common answer, believe it or not," Kelly replied.
Jess has proven herself a shrewd business woman since she and Nick split, launching a clothing line in 2005 that's accrued a projected $1 billion in annual sales. Her "Closing Bell" appearance was in honor of the brand's 10-year anniversary.
After taking the fashion world by storm, Jessica told the "Today" show on Wednesday that she's now ready to get back in touch with her musical side.
"That's how I started," she said of her singing career. "That's always one of my biggest passions in the world. I love to use my voice."

As for revisiting her reality TV roots, Jessica admitted that her "Newlyweds" days taught her a lesson that money can't buy.
"That's very rear view," she said of her and Nick's MTV hit. "Having a camera on me at all times, I mean we all know I stick my foot in my mouth a little bit too much."
The former couple has moved on since their 2006 divorce. Jessica is now married to former NFL tight end Eric Johnson, with whom she shares daughter Maxwell, 3, and son Ace, 2. Nick wed actress Vanessa Minnillo in 2011. They welcomed son Camden in 2012 and daughter Brooklyn in January.
