One survivor of the attack will join the cast of companion series 'Fear the Walking Dead' in season two.
AMC may not be planning to cross-over The Walking Dead with its freshman companion series during their ongoing series, but a new half-hour special will do just that.
The cabler has ordered a half-hour special set to feature an outbreak on an airline. The stand-alone effort will unspool online in chapters that will air later during The Walking Dead, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
As first reported by EW, the web series will take place during the time period of Fear the Walking Dead — at the origins of the outbreak — and feature an outbreak on a passenger craft in flight before civilization has fallen. One character who survives the flight from hell will then join the cast of Fear the Walking Dead's previously announced 15-episode second season.

The plane story marks the latest web series for The Walking Dead, though it is the first time there will be any crossover with either show as they air on AMC.
It's unclear who is writing the special, how many installments there will be in the web series or when they will begin airing during commercial breaks during The Walking Dead.
Fear showrunner Dave Erickson previously told THR that he had a web series in mind for the companion show but that ended up not moving forward. It's unclear if this is the same idea Erickson originally had.
Fear the Walking Dead airs Sundays at 9 p.m.; The Walking Dead returns for season six on Oct. 11.
