The 'Married' star will appear on Fox's upcoming Rob Lowe/Fred Savage comedy.

Nat Faxon is returning to his old time slot.

The Hollywood Reporter has learned that the Married star has booked a gig on Fox fall comedy The Grinder, which enters Tuesday's 8:30 p.m. half-hour on Sept. 29. (Just three years ago, that same opening housed Faxon's short-lived comedy Ben & Kate.)

This return to Fox finds Faxon filling a much different role. The Oscar-winning screenwriter (The Descendants) is set to play town royalty Lyle Gerhart, a member of the Boise elite who comes into contact with Rob Lowe and Fred Savage's Sanderson brothers. Lyle is described as having an "effortlessly cool vibe" that is so effortless it flirts with being phony.

Faxon can currently be seen on FX comedy Married. Its second season is set to finish up on Sept. 17. On the other side of the camera, he and writing partner Jim Rash have an overall deal with Sony Pictures TV to develop and produce series projects with Kevin Walsh.

As for The Grinder, the 20th Century Fox TV comedy is one of the few half-hours launching at the top of the fall season. Its being partnered with John Stamos vehicle Grandfathered.

Faxon is repped by CAA, Principato-Young and Stone, Meyer and Genow.
