Katherine Heigl has a new leading man.
The Good Wife alum Steven Pasquale has nabbed the male lead in CBS' retooled Doubt pilot, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Doubt, which narrowly missed a series pickup in May after going through development season as one of the most buzzy scripts, centers on Sadie, a smart, chic, successful defense lawyer (Heigl) at a boutique firm who shockingly gets romantically involved with one of her clients who may or may not be guilty of a brutal crime.
Pasquale, who replaces Teddy Sears, will take over the role of Billy, a decent, altruistic pediatric surgeon recently accused of murdering a 15-year-old girl many years ago, who is having a secret love affair with his attorney, Sadie.
For Pasquale, the role keeps him in the CBS fold following a run on the network's critical darling The Good Wife. He also recently had a multiple-episode arc on Netflix's Bloodline and starred on Broadway in The Bridges of Madison County. Next up, he'll play Mark Fuhrman in the FX anthology American Crime Story: The People vs. O.J. Simpson. The actor also had the lead in NBC's short-lived Jekyll and Hyde drama Do No Harm.
Doubt, which also saw Heigl replace Private Practice alum KaDee Strickland, is getting a second shot at a series pickup at CBS, which has high hopes for the drama. The cast also includes Dule Hill, Laverne Cox, Kobi Libii, Elliott Gould and Dreama Walker.
Doubt is written and exec produced by longtime Grey's Anatomy exec producers Tony Phelan and Joan Rater. Doubt hails from CBS Television Studios, Timberman/Beverly Productions and is exec produced by Phelan, Rater, Carl Beverly and Sarah Timberman. Adam Bernstein will also exec produce and direct the new pilot.
