Sofia Vergara is NOT asking the Pope to officiate her wedding, despite a claim in one of the tabloids. Gossip Cop can debunk what is easily one of the week’s most outrageous rumors. We’re told by a source close to the star that the allegation is utterly false.

According to the National Enquirer, Vergara “wants the Pope to preside over her wedding to Joe Manganiello.” The supermarket tabloid quotes a supposed “insider” as saying, “She thinks if [the marriage is] blessed by the Pope, it’ll last forever!” And though it’s a “long shot,” the Enquirer claims “the couple has reached out to the Los Angeles diocese to formally request a Vatican wedding!”

The magazine goes on to note that Vergara previously had a Catholic church wedding for her first marriage when she was 18, before divorcing a year later. “Normally, you can’t get married in the church again unless you get an annulment. [But] since this will be Joe’s first wedding — and hers came when she was so young — they’re hoping,” alleges the outlet’s so-called “spy.”

Perhaps the Enqiuirer snitch is “spying” on the wrong couple, because Vergara is NOT trying to get the Pope to be her officiant. An impeccable source close to the “Modern Family” actress exclusively tells Gossip Cop the claim is “untrue.” This must be the week for fake Vergara-Manganiello wedding stories, though, as Gossip Cop already corrected Enquirer sister outlet RadarOnline on Wednesday for wrongly alleging nuptial plans were pushing him to a “meltdown.”
