'Shannara Chronicles' MTVThe fantasy TV series will premiere on the cable channel in 2016.
The MTV Video Music Awards featured a special preview of MTV's The Shannara Chronicles. The fantasy epic, based on the books by Terry Brooks, is set to debut in January 2016.
The first season will pick up from the second book in the series, The Elfstones of Shannara, which follows an Elvin princess a human rover and a half-human half-elf character who journey to save their world from a Demon army. Austin Butler (Switched at Birth), John Rhys Davies (Lord of the Rings) and Ivana Baquero (Pan's Labrynth) will star.

Spider-Man 2 co-writers and Smallville co-creators Al Gough and Miles Millar have teamed up as the show's executive producers and showrunners. At Comic-Con, Gough said the show is "akin to Star Wars."
